Compact and Waterproof: The New noax Steel S15 for harsh environments

Munich, February 2009 – The "Steel S15", the newest member of the noax Steel series, was especially designed for use under the toughest hygienic standards. Its rugged, compact design and smoothed stainless steel enclosure protect it against extreme mechanical stress and chemical exposure, such as vibration, shock, and acids or alkaline substances. Certified as protection class IP67 (NEMA 6), without any slots and seams, consisting of constant food-safe materials, the S15 withstands even temporary submersion. Operators will profit from the high-contrast, 15-inch touch displays, four LED special function keys for ON/OFF, brightness, contrast and calling up the terminal operating states, as well as 20 freely programmable function keys. A network card and numerous on-board interfaces for weighing and identification systems make the S15 suitable for a wide range of applications. It is also available in ultra-compact 12-inch and large-format 19-inch variants.

Update for the Steel series: noax Technologies AG has further improved the Steel S15 by adding a 15-inch, highly durable touchscreen to the new generation. One special feature is the smoothed V2A (1.4301) stainless steel enclosure with a perfectly smooth surface. Now available in versions that are certified up to protection class IP67 (NEMA 6) , it remains waterproof even when temporarily submerged, such as during cleaning. With its special gaskets and food-safe front, the Steel S15 meets the toughest hygienic requirements and can even be used in the most severe industrial conditions.

Also new are the 20 special function keys, which are embedded in the display frame of the Steel S15. They are freely programmable and make for quick and accurate access to frequently used functions. Another plus point is the four LED function keys for ON/OFF, brightness and contrast settings, and for calling up the terminal operating states. Together with the luminous touch display, the noax solution provides an optimum balance between minimal space requirement and user-friendly, clearly structured operation, as is required for applications in clinical areas, chemical and pharmaceutical laboratories, food production, and in industrial fields.

The S15: individually configurable and expandable

The noax Steel S15 (W×H×D: 418×360×133 mm) is available with a 15-inch touch display (1024×768 pixels, 450 cd/m2, Intel 3-D graphics controller), 80-gigabyte hard disk drive, up to 2 gigabytes of main memory, and an Intel CPU (up to 1.4 GHz). All S15 versions have function keys embedded in the display frame (4 permanently assigned LED keys and 20 freely assignable special function keys) and the noax all-in-one motherboard with numerous on-board interfaces. These include 2 RS232 (optional: RS 422 or 485, TTY) and 5 USB connections, Ethernet (RJ 45), LPT, DVI and PS/2. The Steel S15 also has many expansion options (2 PCI slots, Compact Flash Type II, Mini-PCI socket), thereby ensuring high potential for integration in existing solutions and expansion with application-specific peripherals.

One version of the Steel S15 is an efficient Industrial Thin Client (ITC S15-G2), which is designed as a cost-effective front-end computer for server-based applications in environments that demand strict hygienic conditions. Equipped with an internal solid-state drive and a pre-installed noax ITC operating system for centralised management and configuration, the ITC is already optimally prepared for efficient client mode in rough production environments.
