The Keyboard or the Barcode Decoder do not Work
Operating system: Windows 2000/XP
Problem:
A keyboard connected after booting and/or a connected
barcode reader do not work
Description:
If Windows 2000/XP is booted without a keyboard being
connected, the keyboard driver is not loaded correctly.
As barcode signals are also normally read via the keyboard
interface, barcode readers are also affected and will not
work.
The integrated barcode decoder is also affected.
Solution:
System Requirements: Windows2000
min. Service Pack 2
/
Windows XP
The following registry entry will solve the problem:
Under
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters
a
DWORT
value is added with the description
"
Headless
" and a value of "
1
"
Please note that this entry will not work under Windows 2000
with an installed Servicepack smaller than 2.
This entry causes the keyboard driver to be loaded during
booting evenwith no keyboard connected.
Attention:
The keyboard connected later must be "hotplug capable" to
exclude the threat of destroying the keyboard or the
keyboard controller in the IPC.
If in doubt, please consult the documentation for your
keyboard.
