Notes on New Installation of Operating Systems
Basic Principles
When installing an operating system on an "empty" noax
system, sthere are various limitations that have to be
observed, depending on the existing configuration of IPC
and peripheral devices.
In addition to this, limitations of the operating systems
in question have to be taken into account.
Since a "naked" system needs some initial medium from which
to boot it, the following is an explanation of
meaningful
technically possible combinations:
Series P5 Units
These units possess a USB connection
but cannot boot from
this
.
The following combinations would therefore seem good
choices:
- Boot from standard service floppy disk with access to USB
resp. parallel CD-ROM and network
Series P6 Units
These can boot from USB. This expands the options as
follows:
- Boot from USB floppy with access to USB CD, parallel CD,
network
- Boot from standard service floppy with access to USB CD,
parallel CD, network
- Boot from USB CD-ROM with access to USB CD-ROM, parallel
CD, network
- Boot from USB ZIP with access to USB CD-ROM, parallel
CD, network
- Boot from USB flashstick with access to USB CD-ROM,
parallel CD, network
Alternatives
The boot disk/CD has to have appropriate drivers installed
and set up accordingly.
The noax Service staff can prepare such boot disks/CDs for
you on request.
Due to the great variety of possible combinations of booting
method, source media and operating system plus installation
method, it is necessary to produce these boot media
individually.

As an alternative, we can provide a recovery CD. This CD is
bootable (for P6 units via USB CD-ROM) and contains a
menu-guided recovery system which allows the image of any
operating system on that CD to be copied to the hard disk.
These images are optimized for the relevant hardware and
only require smaller adjustments like setting the display
resolution and calibrating the touchscreen.
The following operating systems are available, amongst
others: MSDOS6.22, Windows95, Windows98, Windows NT4.0,
Windows2000, WindowsXP, QNX, SUSE Linux. (For technical
reasons, not all operating systeme are available for all
generations of PCs).
